Routine maintenance and cleaning

A weekly pool checklist for owners

Five minutes a week between maintenance visits catches most problems before they become expensive.

Indoor residential pool with a cover reel beside clear, balanced water

Even with professional maintenance, owners see the pool every day. A quick weekly check makes use of that: noticing a falling water level, a full basket, rising filter pressure or the first hint of green on the steps. These are easy to fix when caught early and costly when left until the next visit.

Routine guides describe one part of regular pool care and how to do it properly.

The checklist does not replace maintenance; it supports it. Recording what you see and sharing it with the maintenance company lets them plan the next visit and act sooner when needed.

The short version

  • Look

    Clarity, debris and water level.

  • Check

    Baskets and the pressure gauge.

  • Report

Anything unusual to the maintenance company.

The weekly check

  • Water level

Around the middle of the skimmer opening.

  • Baskets and pressure

Empty skimmer baskets; note the filter pressure.

  • A quick test

Chlorine and pH with strips or a kit, especially in summer.

  • Equipment at a glance

A look and listen in the plant room: no new drips, no grinding or rattling, timers showing the right time after any power cut.

Report these

  1. 01

    Cloudy or green water

    Even slight changes.

  2. 02

    New noises

    From the pump or equipment.

  3. 03

    Water loss

    More than usual.

Common questions

Should owners add chemicals themselves?

Agree this with your maintenance company to avoid double dosing.

What test kit should I use?

A simple kit or strips for chlorine and pH is enough for weekly checks.

Is weekly checking necessary in winter?

It is still useful, though demand is lower.

What water level is right?

Around the middle of the skimmer opening. Lower and the skimmer draws air; higher and surface debris is not pulled in.

How should I share what I find?

A photo of the test result or the gauge, sent to the maintenance company with the date, is usually all that is needed.
