Particular pools and situations

Looking after the pool while you are away

Many Dubai households travel for weeks in summer, exactly when pools need the most attention. A plan before you leave avoids a green pool on your return.

Summer is the hardest season for an unattended pool. Warm water, strong sun and dust use up chlorine fast, and if anything interrupts circulation — a tripped breaker, a timer reset by a power cut, a basket full of leaves — algae can take hold within days. Pools that go weeks without a visit often need a full recovery when the family comes home.

These guides adapt pool care to a particular season, household or type of pool.

The answer is a simple arrangement before departure: the water well balanced on the day you leave, the equipment checked and running reliably, enough chemicals on site, and visits continuing at a frequency that suits the season. Someone with access to the plant room and the power board, and a way of reporting back with photos, completes the plan.

The short version

  • Leave the water in balance

Starting with correct pH and good chlorine buys time between visits.

  • Make sure circulation cannot stop unnoticed

Timers and power cuts are the usual reason pools turn while families are away.

  • Keep visits going

Summer pools rarely go more than a week without needing attention.

Before you travel

  • A pre-departure visit

Full clean, balance, filter backwash or clean, and an equipment check close to the departure date.

  • Access and contacts

Keys or access codes for the gate and plant room, and who to call if the power trips.

  • Supplies on site

Enough chlorine and acid for the whole absence, stored safely.

While you are away

  • Photo reports

A photo of the pool and the test result after each visit keeps you informed.

  • Power cut plan

Someone who can reset the timer or breaker if the pump stops.

  • Water level

Evaporation in summer means top-ups between visits.

Common questions

Can a salt chlorinator look after the pool on its own?

It helps, but it relies on the pump running and correct salt and pH. It still needs checking.

Should the pool be covered while we are away?

A cover reduces debris and evaporation; chemistry under a closed cover still needs checking.

How often should someone visit?

In summer, typically weekly. In cooler months, a lighter schedule may be enough.
