Particular pools and situations
Pool care through the Dubai winter
Cooler water is easier to look after, but it is not maintenance-free. Winter is also the time to service equipment before summer.

From late autumn, water temperatures fall, sunlight is less intense and many pools are used less. Chlorine lasts longer, algae grows more slowly and evaporation drops. Pump run times can usually be reduced and visits may become less frequent, as long as the water is still tested and chlorine is held in range.
These guides adapt pool care to a particular season, household or type of pool.
Winter brings its own tasks. Heat pumps come into use and need flow and airflow checking. Covers help hold heat. Leaf drop from some trees continues, and occasional rain needs a response. The quieter months are also the practical time to service pumps, filters and chillers before the summer load returns.
The short version
Lower demand, not none
Chlorine still has to be held in range in cooler water.
Shorter pump hours
Filtration needs fall, but the pool still needs daily circulation.
Prepare for summer
Winter is the time for equipment servicing and media changes.
Winter adjustments
Chemistry
Testing continues; dosing usually reduces. Salt cells may be turned down to avoid overproduction.
Heating
Heat pumps checked for flow and airflow; covers used to reduce heat loss overnight.
Servicing
Filter media, pump seals and chiller servicing scheduled before summer.
Winter checks
Adjust timers
Shorter run times suited to the season.
Watch after rain
Winter showers dilute chemistry.
Book equipment servicing
Before demand rises again in spring.
Common questions
Can I stop maintenance in winter?
No. Even cool pools need chlorine and circulation, or they will deteriorate.
Should the salt cell output be reduced?
Often yes, as demand falls. Test regularly to set it correctly.
Is it worth heating the pool?
That depends on how much it is used. Covers make heating much more efficient.
