Pool pump and filter servicing

Circulation is what keeps a pool clear. We service, repair and set up the pumps and filters that move and clean the water, so the rest of the pool’s care has something solid to build on.

Most water clarity problems trace back to circulation rather than chemistry. A pump that runs too few hours, a filter whose media has worn smooth or clumped, or a multiport valve with a damaged gasket will let fine dust pass straight back into the pool, however carefully the water is balanced.

Our pump and filter work covers existing systems: servicing, repairs, media changes and the settings that decide how much water is actually being filtered each day.

Pump and filter work

  • Pump diagnosis

Noise, overheating, low flow, leaks at the seal and pumps that will not hold their prime.

  • Seals, bearings and lids

Replacing worn mechanical seals, bearings, lid O-rings and baskets.

  • Filter media changes

Replacing exhausted sand or glass media, and cleaning or replacing cartridges.

  • Multiport and valves

Replacing spider gaskets, handles and valves that leak or bypass the filter.

  • Pressure gauges

Fitting working gauges so filter loading can be read rather than guessed.

  • Run-time set-up

Setting daily run times or variable-speed programmes to suit the pool volume and the season.

Worth knowing about your filter

  • Media wears out

Sand and glass media lose their filtering edge and can clump over time. Backwashing does not restore worn media.

  • Read the gauge

A rise in filter pressure above its clean reading is the signal to backwash or clean — not the day of the week.

  • Turnover matters

The whole pool volume needs to pass through the filter regularly. In summer that usually means longer run times.

Common questions

Why is my pool pump so loud?

Common causes are worn bearings, a blocked basket or impeller, or air being drawn into the system. Each sounds a little different and needs its own repair, so we listen and test before ordering parts.

How do I know if the filter media needs changing?

Signs include cloudy water despite balanced chemistry, very short intervals between backwashes, or pressure that barely changes after backwashing. We check the media condition directly.

Is a variable-speed pump worth it?

Running slower for longer filters effectively and usually uses less electricity. Whether replacement makes sense depends on the age and condition of your current pump.
