Restoring weak flow from pool return jets
Weak return flow means the water is not turning over properly. The cause is usually something you can check in a few minutes.

Strong flow from the return jets keeps the surface moving towards the skimmers and carries chlorine into every part of the pool. When flow drops, debris settles on the floor, chemicals stay concentrated near the returns and algae finds the still corners first. In a Dubai summer, that can turn a clear pool dull within days.
Equipment guides cover servicing and faults on the plant an existing pool already has.
Most flow problems are restrictions in the water path: full skimmer or pump baskets, a filter that needs backwashing or cleaning, or valves left half-closed after maintenance. The filter pressure gauge is the quickest guide. High pressure with weak jets points at the filter; low pressure with weak jets points at something before the filter — baskets, suction valves, air or the pump itself.
The short version
Baskets first
A full skimmer or pump basket is the most common reason for weak jets, and the quickest to fix.
Read the pressure gauge
High pressure means the filter is restricting flow; low pressure means the restriction is before it.
Then valves, air and the pump
Misset valves, air leaks and a worn or blocked impeller all reduce flow.
What the symptoms point to
High filter pressure, weak jets
The media is loaded with dirt. Backwash a sand filter or clean the cartridges, then note the new clean pressure.
Low filter pressure, weak jets
The pump is not receiving enough water: full baskets, a closed suction valve, a blocked main drain, air in the line or debris in the impeller.
Some jets strong, others weak
Valve settings on the return manifold, or a partly blocked line or eyeball fitting, are usually responsible.
Work through these in order
Empty every basket
Skimmers and the pump basket, with the pump switched off before opening the lid.
Compare the gauge with its clean reading
Owners who note the reading after each backwash can tell at a glance whether the filter is the problem.
Check valve handles
After any maintenance, confirm suction and return valves are fully open and the filter valve is on filter.
Common questions
Why did flow drop straight after cleaning?
Valves may have been left partly closed, a basket lid may not be sealing, or a cartridge may not be seated properly.
Can a pump lose power over time?
Yes. A worn impeller or wear ring reduces flow gradually, which a technician can confirm.
Does weak flow affect chlorine?
Yes. Poor circulation leaves some areas under-treated even when the test at the deep end looks fine.
