Comparing pool care choices
Robotic cleaners and manual cleaning
A good robotic cleaner takes on most of the vacuuming. It does not take on everything else.

Robotic cleaners are self-contained: they drive across the floor and up walls, scrubbing and collecting debris in their own filter, without loading the pool’s main filter. For pools in dusty or leafy settings they can save hours of manual vacuuming each week and keep floors noticeably cleaner between visits.
Comparison guides set two pool care choices side by side and say when each suits.
They have limits. Most cannot clean steps, benches and tight corners well; many skip the waterline or clean it poorly; and they do nothing for water chemistry, skimmer baskets or the filter. They also need their own care — emptying, rinsing and storing out of the sun — or they break down sooner than expected.
The short version
Robots handle the floor
Regular vacuuming with their own filtration.
People handle the rest
Steps, corners, waterline, baskets and chemistry.
Robots need care too
Emptying, rinsing and sensible storage extend their life.
Where each fits
Robotic cleaner
Daily or several-times-weekly floor and wall cleaning between visits.
Manual brushing
Steps, ledges, corners and around fittings, where algae starts.
Manual vacuuming
Heavy loads such as storm sand or dead algae, often to waste.
If you add a robot
Empty it after each run
A full filter stops it cleaning properly.
Keep brushing the difficult areas
It will not reach them.
Store it in the shade
UV and heat damage brushes, tracks and cables.
Common questions
Can a robot replace a maintenance visit?
No. It cleans floors and walls but not chemistry, baskets, equipment or steps.
Does a robot reduce filter load?
Yes. It filters debris internally, so less reaches the main filter.
Can a robot handle storm sand?
It helps, but heavy sand is often better vacuumed to waste.
